Thornybush
Private Game Reserve

Thornybush is a wonderful Big 5 destination, loaded with birds and wildlife of all shapes and sizes.  This private game reserve borders the Timbavati Private Game Reserve, just west of the Kruger National Park.  Thornybush is well known for its community development projects as well as its wildlife conservation efforts.  The Thornybush collection of lodges employs people from the local communities, supports local schools and is involved in various agricultural projects providing community upliftmentThornybush is also home to the Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre.  The goal of this amazing facility is to rehabilitate injured animals release them back into the wild.   

A host of lodges and tented camps catering to all tastes can be found here, along with photographic hides throughout the reserve.  Get your camera ready!  If you’re looking for even more adventure, hot air balloon, helicopter and plane rides are available for a unique perspective of this incredible wilderness.  Don’t let the birds have all the fun! 

When to Go

May – October

This is the best time to go on safari in South Africa because it’s the dry season which makes wildlife much easier to see due to shorter grass and less-dense vegetation. Also, water is more scarce, and animals are likely to be seen quenching their thirst at waterholes.
